Autumn trend: Frills and ruffles

Ruffles and frills. Frills and ruffles. It seems every piece of clothing is adorned with these at the moment. Most definitely a big trend for AW16. Personally, I bloody love an exaggerated frill but if that’s not your cup of Yorkshire, there are lots of pieces on the high street which give a mere nod to this frilly trend.

Here are five of my top high street picks:

1. H&M blue/white stripe frill blouse £29.99
I have just purchased this blouse and it is fab.u.lous. Perfect with some high waisted jeans and a pair of loafers. The frill is quite exaggerated which may not be ideal for all, especially the bigger busted beauties. But if you live by the mantra “Go big or go home” then this blouse is for you. Also available in plain white.

2. Topshop leopard print ruffle dress £46
The fashion blogger favourite and quite rightly so. A great flattering shape, great print and great frillage (pretty sure I just made up a new word there..!). Add a bold red lip, black tights and some black shiny brogues for a smart low key look. Due to its popularity this frock is now becoming quite hard to get hold of online but I did see it recently in-store.

3. Marks and Spencer, Limited Edition, red ruffle shoulder jumper £35
M&S have some super stuff this season. Go take a look. This jumper is a gorgeous rich shade of red (perfect for Christmas…..yep I did say the C word) and has a subtle frill on the chest and shoulders. When winter really kicks in you could also add a crisp white shirt underneath. But I think this would look rather snazzy with some black leather cigarette pants and Leopard print flats!

4. Zara yellow frilled mini dress £49.99
A custard yellow dress. With frills. And long sleeves. I repeat, custard yellow, frills, sleeves. If this dress had pockets it would be pretty much perfect. Bravo Zara, bravo.

5. Dorothy Perkins grey ruffle shoulder t-shirt £12
For those of you not convinced by all the ruffles and frilliness, opting for something simpler maybe the way to go. This little t-shirt from Dotty P’s is clean and uncomplicated, with only a delicate ruffle at the shoulder. The merest nod to this AW trend. A throw on and layer up piece that would work wonderfully some chunky knitwear in deepest darkest winter. Also available in dark red.
