Black Bar Brewery Cambridge

We thought we’d take advantage of Black Bar Brewery‘s open days and go and meet Jo, get him to tell us about beer, and have a nosey around his equipment (as it were).

Aside from getting the time wrong and getting there too late for samples (I assume he was offering samples earlier and we were just unlucky!) it was great to pop to the unit and learn a bit more about the brewing process. They showed us around and let us smell the malted barley, hops etc. It was great if you like ale and machinery (yes and yes!) and you could do it in half an hour.

He accepts card if you do go on to buy any of his bottles or mini kegs. I’d give a word of warning about the Dove Step to try before you buy as it’s a unique hop and herb beer that tastes like ginger beer. But I would recommend for fun and taste the wax dipped bottles – he even has one at 10% proof!

Jo mentioned plans for an open air beer festival outside his unit next year, so we’ll look forward to hearing about that!
