It’s that time of year again – new openings galore are on the horizon. Cambridge’s food and drink scene has come a long way since one of my original blogs on the subject back in 2011. Every year more eateries pop up in Cambridge and slowly but surely our ‘chain town’ tag has been shed and Cambridge is finally emerging as a great food and drink destination.
This spring Cambridge sees a brand new hotel opening; a roof terrace set for sipping all the cocktails; a Cambridge institution open another of their popular restaurants and a restaurant in a bus. Yep, a bus.
Phew. We struggle to keep up and we’re nosey, so we thought a round up of the new openings would help.
Tamburlaine // Opening 20 March
This one is exciting – anyone who’s been following this new hotel’s Instagram since the start knows it has literally been built from ground up at the new CB1 development. And now they are just days away from opening their doors. Cambridge has been crying out for a great hotel for years now so get ready for this one to be booked up quick. We’re most excited about the food and drink offerings – we’ll be grabbing coffee and brunch from the deli and cafe, Steam, as soon as we can and of course indulging in cocktails in the garden room. We hear there’s even outdoor space round the back so we’re hoping to be out there, sunnies on, sipping a Cambridge Sour or King’s College Spritz very soon indeed.
La Latina Bustaurante // On the road very soon
If there was ever a case for Cambridge being at the cutting edge of eating trends nowadays, this must be it. All being well, in a few short weeks you will be able to eat your dinner on a bus. Yep, Cambridge very own Bustaurante will be serving up a taste of Latin American and Latin from their converted double decker. We’re not sure when, or where yet but we’re keeping our eyes peeled on this one.
Novi Roof Terrace // Opening May
You’ve seen those exquisite botanical cocktails, you’ve tried the Parmesan churros (you haven’t? Best get on that, quick) and now Cambridge’s funkiest spot is getting it’s own roof terrace too. Yep, you can now sip your Sloe Down al fresco and we can’t wait.
Hum-Closen // Opening tbc
The baby of our BWC pal and ex-Mons cheese bod, Suzannah and her business partner Neil, this cheese and natural wine venture is coming very soon. Expect deli-cum-cafe with options to eat in or simply browse and take home your fromage of choice. While the team get their new premises under way we wanted to give them a shout out and let you know that if your cheese and wine cravings hit in the meantime, you can find them at Ely Market every Saturday 8.30am-3.30pm.
Smokeworks, Station Road // Opening mid-June
Smokeworks is gaining a little sister – or should that be big sister, because from first peek, the new Smokeworks site at Station Road is much bigger than the current spot. So that will be more ribs, more pulled pork buns and *those* salted caramel shakes.
Already open and tempting us in to try are the brand new Cotto at Gonville Hotel (we’ll be saving that for an extra special date night), Signorelli’s Deli down Burleigh Street and Zio Mario on Station Road. Are there any others we need to jot down?
