Yes Cambridge has gone a bit burger crazy these days – but who are we to complain? Sian and Alex pop to Byron Burger cambridge for a speedy try of the new lunch deal and their special Korean-themed menu.
Alex opted for the bean burger from the new £10 lunch menu (£10 for a classic burger, fries and a drink – you can upgrade to beer and sweet potato or courgette fries for a small fee too – which of course she did!). Super crunchy and crispy but packed with flavour she loved it, especially with that confit tomato. For her it needed a touch extra zing from a sauce so she cheekily pinched some of Sian’s Korean dipping sauce which made it perfect. Plus we always love a big chunk of pickle served on the side.
Sian went for the Korean combo – The Kimcheese burger with Gangnam fries, and a Pale Ale of course. The Freddar cheese, crispy onions and kimchi cucumbers all sounded right up her street but she went for the Korean BBQ sauce on the side in case it was overpowering. In the end that was a top choice – it was a little too intense for her burger palate and it meant Alex got to steal some too! The Ssamjang mayonaise and those crispy onions made for burger heaven and alongside the hint of heat from the Gangnam fries with jalapenos and cheese – it was a Korean inspired feast which made a Wednesday lunchtime massively indulgent.
As if Burger Wednesday joy wasn’t enough – we shared an Oreo shake. Um, hello. This was a dessert in a very large glass and just the ultimate in sharing desserts – how anyone manages a whole one to themselves is beyond us. With chunks of brownie and a shake crammed full of Oreos, we couldn’t ave loved it more.
Suitably sated from our burger and brownie combo, we vowed to return for lunch soon – and with that £10 deal, it might be often!
