Smoothie experiments: It’s pepper time!

My eldest, Tilly, is a pepper addict. I know, how did I get so lucky right? She eats them like apples and it’s her favourite snack at any time of day. (As an aside my youngest survives on chocolate and biscuits so it all balances out!). So when we were ask by ‘It’s Pepper Time’ to work up some morning smoothie using peppers, she was over the moon. As you can see.

I wasn’t so sure, I have my morning green smoothie sussed – spinach, banana and pineapple. It doesn’t ever change. A pepper in there? Hmmm….

But I was ready to be proved wrong, and Tilly was only too keen to help. We whizzed up two pepper smoothies in our Breville Blend Active Blender (the best budget blender around, honestly, I’ve used one for a few years now and wouldn’t ever swap), recipes below.

Pepper hit

1 apple, peeled and cut into cubes

1 sweet orange pepper

1 stalk celery

A handful of raspberries

Juice of half a lemon

Whizz together and drink it up quick – this is one of those smoothies that settles a little quickly. This one was Tilly’s favourite and a great colour too!

Red alert

1 sweet red pepper

200 ml Cloudy apple juice

1 small piece of ginger

Whizz together and serve over ice. This one is definitely an adult style drink – the ginger gives you and your digestive system a real kick! This one convinced me – peppers in smoothies really can work.

We enjoyed our pepper challenge and we both have a new favourite smoothie! To get more pepper-spiration head to Colourful Taste on Facebook.
