What’s in my makeup bag…my everyday look.

Until 6 or so years ago, the makeup that I wore was always cheap, something that I could pick up in Boots or Superdrug. On my wedding day I wanted to do my own makeup so I paid a visit to M.A.C, spent a small fortune and never looked back! I’m still in love with M.A.C lipsticks but have now found some new brands with products that I love. In Cambridge, we are lucky enough to have spanking new beauty section in John Lewis which includes some great brands like Charlotte Tilbury, Marc Jacobs, Laura Mercier to name a few. This Christmas I mostly asked for John Lewis vouchers so I could feed my growing cosmetics addiction! My makeup bag is a real mix of high end and high street. I’m no makeup expert this is just what I wear day to day. I love having a nose at other people’s make up so hope you enjoy this little snoop…

Neal’s Yard Remedies Wild Rose Beauty Balm £38.
A deliciously thick and fragrant moisturising balm that sinks quickly into my skin, leaving it hydrated, primed and ready for my face to go on! Available from Neal’s Yard stores and online.

Maybelline concealer The Eraser Eye in light £7.99.
An Instagram recommendation that is easy on the wallet and works like a charm. As a lady slowly heading towards a “big” birthday I need a hydrating and brightening under eye concealer which doesn’t stick in my wrinkles. This is one of the best I’ve found. Available from any Maybelline stockist.

Rimmel London “wake me up make up” Foundation in Soft Beige £8.99.
I don’t like a heavy coverage foundation and this feels really light with a sheer dewy finish. I great dupe for NARS Sheer Glow I’ve been told (which is next on my hit list!). Again, available at any Rimmel London stockist.

M.A.C Pro Long Wear Paint Pot in soft ochre £16.
All the women in my family have dark deep set eyes, me included! I use this instead of eye shadow or concealer to tone down my dark eye lids and to brighten. It has such a great creamy texture and slides on like a dream. Available from M.A.C in-store and online.

Avon Perfect Brow Kit in Medium £4.00
This is the Avon equivalent of Benefit’s Browzings (which I love) but at a fraction of the price. The powder colour works for me to fill in my brows inbetween tints. I bought this some time ago and can’t see it on the current Avon website so not sure if it is still available.

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder in medium £33.
This was a Christmas present so its still new to me but I’m absolutely LOVING it already! It leaves my skin so soft and my blush and highlighter sit beautifully on top of it. Gorgeous packaging to boot. Available online and at Charlotte Tilbury stockists.

Becca Highlighter in Moonstone £32
Another new addition to my make up collection. One of my beautician pals recommended Becca as the go-to for highlighter. It’s really pigmented so you don’t need a lot and gives my cheek bones a delicate sheen. A hit so far. Available at Space NK stores and online.

Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes £25
My second round of Charlotte Tilbury mascara. Yep it’s that good. I just love this stuff. Gives you glossy, black-as-ink lashes. Great for layering if you want a more dramatic evening look. Available online and at any Charlotte Tilbury stockists.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Blush in Kink & Kisses £28.
I bought this with my Christmas vouchers a couple of weeks ago, so yet another newby. The black and gold packaging is so sleek and fancy! The two-tone colour is perfecto for me. It’s also highly pigmented so a little goes a long way. A real treat to wear. Available from John Lewis.

Lush Lip Scrub in Mint Julip £5.50
Like rubbing mint choc chip flavoured sugar into your lips! Super tasty and if you favour the dark lip (as I do) this is a really great way to get smooth lipstick application. Available from Lush stores and on-line.

Avon Coco Butter Lip Butter
This was a gift so I’m not sure of the price or if it’s still available. Lovely texture and smells divine. A perfect prep before your lippy.

M.A.C Retro Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo £15.50
A classic red that I always come back to. It has insane staying power and works with pretty much every skin tone. Available online and in-store at M.A.C.

A final note: a friend recommended the Real Technique make up brushes to me and I need to share the love! They are brilliant, cheap and widely available. They are designed by makeup artists Sam and Nic Chapman, who have a fantastic YouTube channel, Pixiwoo. Go watch them if you haven’t already! Really inspiring East Anglian women!
